Shimoda Village is a backdrop for the 1993 Japanese animated feature "Ninja Scroll".
History[]
In the film, The Shogun of the Dark are attempting to recover a large shipment of gold that was lost in a storm near Shimoda Village to fund their rebellion against the current Tokugawa government. To make sure this happens with as little incident as possible they hire The Eight Devils of Kimon to remove anyone who could potentially discover their plan. The Devils achieve this by poisoning the well in Shimoda Village, making it look as though the villagers died from a plague and causing a panic that leads to a complete evacuation of the surrounding areas and the closing of the highway leading into the village. The Koga Ninja Team of the Mochizuki Clan are sent to the village to investigate but are wiped out by Yurimaru and Tessai.
